If Egeomate’s Spanish version had 100 readers

This article reflects the statistics taken from January to October 2011 from Google Analytics, and simplified to the case were only 100 readers of this page. Clearly it’s a reflection of the Hispanic context that would be different if I had a priority in another language or public. But if the data can be useful for marketing purposes, here goes.

Before I did an analysis of 100 cities in 10 countries, the most curious behavior is Mexico that is now over to Spain, a subject that was to be expected in population because there is a noticeable difference but not connectivity. There is also a significant decline in the English-speaking audience, partly because eGeomate attracts more searches of Anglo-Saxon environment represented by the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and India.

This would be the behavior by country.

  • 21 Mexicans
  • 20 Spanish
  • 11 Peruvians
  • 8 Colombian
  • 7 Argentines
  • 7 Chileans
  • 4 Venezuelan
  • 4 Ecuadorian
  • 3 Bolivians
  • 3 Hondurans
  • 12 would come from other countries

If the measurement was by cities:

The behavior is quite different, because, although in countries 8 make up 88% of Hispanic traffic; in cities, 10 major cities barely reaches 33%, which suggests that in the Spanish context there is a high traffic for the not capitals cities. There is also a dirty zone caused in Tegucigalpa, which is not a city bigger and connected than Guatemala; but as the site is born in this country, brings much traffic by scattered themes in Google.hn which ranges from love advice to pornography. Indeed it strikes Lima, where the eGeomate translator lives and that should not cause a statistics distortion, but where there is an interesting euphoria by the geospatial issue and also because this country has a migration characteristic from the countryside to the city which is little less than disastrous.

  • 7 would be from Lima
  • 4 of Mexico City
  • 4 of Bogota
  • 4 of Madrid
  • 4 of Santiago
  • 2 of Buenos Aires
  • 2 of Barcelona
  • 2 of Tegucigalpa
  • 2 of Quito
  • 2 of Caracas
  • 67 would come from other cities in the world

If it were by browser:

  • 40 would still use Internet Explorer
  • 29 would be Firefox lovers
  • 27 have already been passed to Chrome
  • 2 would use Safari
  • 1 would use Opera

1 would be the used over that uses some few extended options such as Mozilla compatible agent on mobile phones, Android browser, Opera Mini, Internet Explorer from framed Chrome and RockMelt.

Here we see how Chrome is gaining visitors, from this I spoke a few days ago, I believe that in a couple of years will have surpassed Firefox not because this will miss visits but because Internet Explorer will only be with a 28%.

If it were by interests why users come to:

  • 15 would do for AutoCAD
  • 8 for Google Earth
  • 6 by UTM coordinates’ issues
  • 6 by ArcGIS or ArcView
  • 3 for Microstation
  • 2 for gvSIG

36 would be by various combinations, including these topics but not with the direct word in the search phrase. About this I made before an article comparing the value software has in Egeomate’s Spanish version traffic.

If it would be by operating system

Here we see that Mac is still a minority platform, although there is no Hollywood movie where the little apple is shown. It’s also seen that traffic through mobiles is a minority.

  • 95 would use Windows
  • 2 would use Macintosh
  • 2 Linux
  • 1 would use a mobile operating system

The distribution of this 1 using mobile platforms

On this side is well known how Mac dominates the mobile market, if we consider that they are 100 persons, 72 use Apple devices if we add iPad, iPhone and iPod. If the trend is that the desktop is going to move to mobile tools, gadgets and rely more on the Web, then the next giant will be Mac, it’s a matter of time and Steve Jobs legacy.

45 would do through an iPad

  • 23 by an iPhone
  • 18 using an Android
  • 5 by BlackBerry
  • 4 surprisingly using an iPod
  • 4 using a SymbianOS
  • 1 still uses Nokia

Rounding makes it not even reaches 1 the rest which is divided between those who use Windows Mobile, Sony and Samsung.

If I measure myself:

  • I am one of the three connecting from a country listed in the first list.
  • One of two comes from a town in the second list
  • Unlike the readers, I am the writer and currently use AutoCAD as well as Microstation, gvSIG more than ArcGIS, Google Earth / Maps … every day.
  • One of the 27 who use Chrome as a browser
  • One of the 95 who use Windows, but I also connect a lot from the phone.
  • One of the 45 who use iPad as a device

Also the article reminds us that we are privileged people that connect from connected cities, if we are on the list. If our operating system, country or city is not included there, much more privileged. In many cases one of geographic minority that uses software and hardware of the majority, this is what happens to me.
