Rosario Robles, Minister of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU) of Mexico inaugurated the conference. Giving the guest address, Dr. Kathryn D Sulivan, Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and NOAA Administrator said that we are the first generation human beings to look at the environment like never before.  NOAA is seizing the opportunity by providing environmental intelligence that is timely and action-based. This is important to foster resilience among societies and businesses by preparing them to face weather changes effectively.

Chris Gibson, Vice President, Trimble discussed the technology trends shaping the geospatial industry and how those trends are being applied to multiple industries. He said geospatial information is increasingly found at the heart of an evolving ecosystem for several industries.  Citing an example, he said that geospatial information enables 30% reduction in construction costs.  With increasing percolation of geospatial information, the boundaries of geospatial professionals are getting blurred. They are more engaged in industry processes and demonstrating where they can provide value in that process.
