Google Docs can now read dxf files

Just few days ago, Google expanded its file support range for Google Docs. Previously could only be seen Office files like Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Indeed its type is read only; Google shows its insistence on giving Chrome greater operating system capacity from the cloud. One would expect these features are also added to view files’ ability online with no charge to Google Docs. We can also see how is heading to high demand trends, as it is the case of Office and Adobe, but also to future potential niches such as support for Apple files.

Nor we should get excited so much, just if you can see files in vector way, zoom in, zoom out, send it as an attachment or share it with others. But search routines work within document, layouts support, of course, edition won’t be hoped.

There are all 12 formats that have been added or improved, although some of these were already supported, Google has added greater deployment capabilities and online viewing.

For office applications:

• .xls and .xlsx (Excel)
• .doc and .docx (Word) y .pages for Apple
• .pptx (Powerpoint)

For graphic design:

• .ai (Adobe Illustrator)
• .psd (Adobe Photoshop)
• .svg (Scalable Vector Graphics)
• .eps y .ps (PostScript)
• .ttf (TrueType)

For engineering:

• .dxf (AutoCAD, Microstation)

For development:

• .xps (XML Paper Specification)

They seem important steps for me; dxf’s case is just a basic jump. But it is not in files case for graphic design.
