Geoinformatics 1: Remote Sensing

clip_image001[4]Geoinformatics arrives in his first edition of 2010, with a marked emphasis on remote sensing. Although the year is young, it seems that future editions will maintain this line, including this time two of the great from the unfree sector: ERDAS and ENVI.

If things are as I imagine them, in future editions they will be doing reviews of tools, in the remote sensing thematic, topic in which free sector has advanced very much. Possibly they will consider SEXTANTE libraries under the approach of integration with free tools (gvSIG, uDig, Grass, etc.)

I recommend this reading, here I summarize some tips:

When remote sensing and GIS meets one another.

It is an interesting interview with Rolf Schaeppi, Vice President of ITT European operations. The interview is conducted by the own Eric Van Rees, who initially requested a brief historical review of ENVI, but as they advance, questions cover topics such as:

  • ENVI EX Integration with ArcGIS, which facilitates the interaction between both platforms, taking advantage of the specialties and without losing things along the way, such as styles and symbology.

Then closes the talk, with his point of view between GIS and Remote Sensing; topics that have been gradually merging in the extent that images have come to have higher resolution.

ERDAS, what it is pointing to in 2010.

The interview with Mladen Stojic, from Erdas Marketing is based on trends that are being considered within the business that this product has managed to a very well position.

Among the topics he mentioned the 5D criterion that systems are betting, including: X, Y, Z commonly accepted, added with the time and the associated data. Then he does something more blah, blah with the cycle of data management in Digital Earth.

The interview becomes a little heavy, because some of the questions are very broad, but it’s not out of order to take an advantage over what they are considering standards and its cloud approach.

Other topics.

Jack Dangermond gives continuity to one of his pupils’ interview from the previous edition, talking about the Geodesign and the necessity to consider the georeferencing whenever you are going to do something. Very good indeed, item that in 2011 will take us entertained, therefore the BIM concept is being considered every day with higher priority, and that the genius of this lamp promotes it this emphatically is good for everyone.

It remains to be seen whether they relate to what majority says, or to his idea of standards based on “do it as ESRI”, but I don’t tell you how it works.

There is a very deep article about mobile mapping systems, very fashionable lately, also includes some events like the International Congress of Surveyors FIG-2010 and Leica HDS that just happened. Advertising: a delight let me show you here a sample.
